  • The City of Huntsville is part of Walker County in east Texas, approximately 70 miles north of Houston and 170 miles of Dallas via Interstate 45.  Crossroads include Texas State Highway 30 (west to Bryan-College Station) and State Highway 190 (east to Livingston).  Other cities in Walker County include New Waverly and Riverside.

    Huntsville covers 31.0 square miles, while Walker County includes 790 square miles.  The population of Huntsville is 38,548, New Waverly is 1,032 and Riverside is 510.  The population in Walker County is 67,861.  Walker County is located near Lake Livingston and is surrounded by the Sam Houston National Forest.

    Bruce Brothers Huntsville Regional Airport is the nearest airport for general aviation with a 5,000 foot asphalt runway.  George Bush Intercontinental Airport and the nearest deep-water port are located about an hour away in Houston.

    The Huntsville Walker County Chamber of Commerce has a strong partnership with America’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) which is affiliated with the College of Business Administration at Sam Houston State University.  The SBDC staff provides one-on-one counseling, as well as a variety of training seminars often co-sponsored with the chamber.  Small business start-ups and existing business counseling are priorities of the SBDC.
