  • Carol Smith - President 

    Carol (Grisham) Smith joined the Chamber staff in January, 2008, as  Manager of Membership and Community Development, and was moved to  President on December 17, 2009.   Carol has completed the three year program of the "Fundamentals of Chamber Management" through the Center for Chamber of Commerce Excellence.  She has also served as an Ex-Officio Chamber Board member for several years and active with the chamber while working in education, receiving the Chamber of Commerce Education Service Award in 2000.   Carol holds two degrees from Sam Houston State University including a Masters of Education as well as Administrator Certification.  She is a graduate of Class 12 of the Huntsville Leadership Institute and served on the HLI Board for serveral years.  She is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow '96, and Outstanding Alumni of Home Economics at SHSU and has served as Board Chair for the Huntsville Education Foundation.  Carol served as an HISD administrator for 16 years and later as an Adjunct instructor at SHSU.  She is a 5 generation native of Huntsville and her top priority is serving this community and members of the chamber.  Carol is a Past President of the Walker County Fair and has been active in many state-wide associations including State President of the Career and Technology Administrators of Texas, where she was named "Administrator of the Year" by two different state associations.    She oversees all aspects of the Chamber's day-to-day opperations.  Carol has a strong passion for the Huntsville-Walker County community and is proud to have been previously selected as first runner up to Citizen of the Year.


    Laura Green - Events & Communications Manager

    Laura began her employment with the Chamber in July 2003 and was named Events & Communications Manager in 2007.  She is responsible for the communications programs which includes assisting with the monthly newsletter, The VOICE,   and in the updating of the Chamber website and FaceBook pages. She coordinates monthly member projects such as the Small Business Breakfasts and Business After Hours and also coordinates the  Lunch and Learns and business seminars throughout the year.  Laura manages the Annual Fair on the Square, the Annual Shot in the Dark Night Golf Tournament,  the Chamber Gala Auction, and Diva Night.  She also assists with the Business Expo and ribbon cutting ceremonies for members. In addition Laura is the coordinator for the Huntsville Leadership Institute and is a graduate of Class 25.    Laura has completed the Fundamentals of Chamber Management through the Center for Chamber of Commerce Excellence.  She has an Associates Degree in General Business from Temple Junior College. She is a member of Northside Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Walker County Fair and an avid runner and member of the Seven Hills Running Club.


    Shannon Higbie- Office Manager 


    Shannon is the office manager, serving as the administrative assistant to the president. She handles the financial details for the Chamber and oversees the in-house financial statements, building and equipment maintenance, and provides record keeping for the monthly board meetings and the organization. She helps with the implementation of the Annual Board Planning Retreat, annual financial audits, and is a part of the Thursday Leads Exchange. She manages the annual Business Expo and the annual Gala. Shannon is a graduate of Huntsville High School and holds a BA in English from Sam Houston State University.  Shannon joined the Chamber staff in January 2003 and has completed the Fundamentals of Chamber Management through the Center for Chamber of Commerce Excellence.


    Gwen Lucas- Receptionist/Secretary


    Gwen Lucas joined our staff in June 2015 as our Receptionist/Secretary.  She has lived in Huntsville since April 2008 with her husband Walter, and they have two adult sons.  Gwen’s responsibilities include primary receiver and public relations employee to all members, tourists and visitors calling, entering or writing the Chamber offices, as well as serving as assistant to the management staff in helping create order, professionalism and efficiency throughout the office and its programs.


    Lydia Montgomery - Membership Coordinator

    Lydia Montgomery joined our staff as Membership Coordinator in March of 2015.  She has lived in Huntsville since July 2000 with her husband Dr. Curtis Montgomery and they have three adult daughters. She has been involved in the community as a volunteer and is a graduate of HLI, Huntsville Leadership Institute, Class 28.  Lydia is a graduate of San Jose State University; she has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Some of her responsibilities include contacting new and current businesses with marketing opportunities, business development and recruiting new membership in the Chamber of Commerce.
